Patently Offensive

People want toast, not "Thermally Refreshed Bread". A great documentary about the out of control patent war particularly in the software industry. The funny thing is, this is exactly what I thought after I read the New Yorker piece about Nathan Myhrvold and Intellectual Ventures which is one of those Malcolm Gladwell stories that makes you groan a bit (or a lot). Interestingly, the New Yorker never mentions or investigates the incredible number of shell corporations that Intellectual Ventures owns or their "insurance" business model. It's particularly interesting given the recent purchase of Nortel's patents and Google's purchase of Motorola Mobility as a "patent protection" play. Listen to this piece.
