Because of Inter-net

I ended up at the CBC archives this morning and watched this CBC piece from 1993 about "Internet". Not the Internet, but "Internet". It's so odd to hear the phrase "Internet" used as a proper noun. It's also odd to hear how naive it sounds but I definitely remember that tone from when going online was novel and using my first Freenet e-mail account.

What's odd to me now is how slow the Web developed for me. From '93 to to '98, it was slow and clumsy and pretty simple HTML and e-mail. That's five years of not much going on. Then the rapid adoption of always-on, high-speed access changed everything. Which is important. Access to the technology is probably more important than the technology itself.
