On Board

When time permits I'll often create a style board/presentation of the influences I'm thinking of that might drive a design direction. Below is the presentation I created before working on a site where reading was the primary focus. Reading excerpts, essays, articles, chapters, short fiction, non-fiction, you name it. Eventually the purpose and focus of the site narrowed and became better defined but occasionally I still refer to this presentation. One of the objectives was to convince someone that you could have a site consisting primarily of text but still create interest with a few small images, strong typography and a solid grid layout.
